🍽️ Lunch at Kennedy’s Restaurant – 12:00 PM
Our day begins with lunch at the legendary Kennedy’s Restaurant in Breezy Point. This beloved establishment has deep roots in New York history. Originally opened in Coney Island in the early 1900s, Kennedy’s operated as “Kennedy’s Pavilion.” In 1910, the building was physically transported—by barge!—to Breezy Point, where it was reconstructed on pilings over Jamaica Bay. Since then, it has stood as a pillar of the community for over a century.
Over the years, Kennedy’s has weathered coastal storms, community change, and even Hurricane Sandy, always coming back stronger. Today, it offers a refined yet casual waterfront dining experience, complete with a modern glass-enclosed loft that captures stunning views of the bay and Manhattan skyline. The menu features fresh seafood, dry-aged steaks, and seasonal fare, all served with a side of history.
🌊 Walk or Unwind at Rockaway Beach – 2:00 PM
After lunch, we’ll take a short drive to Rockaway Beach, a neighboring gem full of boardwalk charm and relaxed beach culture. Whether you’d prefer a coastal stroll, an outdoor café cocktail, or just time to sit and watch the waves, Rockaway offers the perfect setting to decompress and connect.
But Rockaway is more than a beach. It’s a place steeped in New York history—from its early days as a summer retreat for Manhattan’s elite to its legacy as a working-class, multicultural oceanfront enclave. Once lined with amusement parks, bungalows, and dance halls, the Rockaways today reflect a mix of revitalization and resilience. The neighborhood continues to honor its roots while embracing new energy from surfers, artists, and families seeking sun and space.
🏖️ Breezy Point: A Hidden Coastal Haven
Breezy Point itself is one of the city’s best-kept secrets—a private, beachfront community long referred to as the “Irish Riviera.” It began as a bungalow colony and evolved into a year-round neighborhood known for its strong civic spirit, volunteer-led fire departments, and a cooperative model that has helped preserve its unique character. The Breezy Point Tip, now a protected part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, is also home to endangered bird species and natural dunes, adding ecological value to its cultural legacy.
Together, Breezy Point and Rockaway Beach represent a rare combination of history, nature, and coastal lifestyle—all within the boundaries of New York City.
