Ship ahoy, mates!
The mates were professionals, health care workers/supporters and guests on the now annual fund-raising and networking cruise by and for Sunrise Senior Living in Sheepshead Bay on the evening of August 25. They all enjoyed a catered buffet dinner, dance music and panoramic views aboard the Atlantis luxurious yacht around city waters, with the sponsorship of Brooklyn real estate leader Annette Fisher and others.
“This is a wonderful opportunity to join hands with a leading older adults’ senior living residence staff and other professionals who serve seniors while working here in Brooklyn and for people to enjoy themselves on an evening on the water,” said Fisher, a certified senior advisor, who co-sponsored the cruise, through BRESRE Realty Inc. and Fort Funding Corp.
Fisher and other co-sponsors, such as BAYADA Health Care, were thanked with applause and cheers for their support by Sunrise leadership at a ceremony in the ships dance floor salon. The Sunrise Senior Living of Sheepshead Bay, at 2211 Emmons Avenue, is an assisted living community, with dignity home care and Alzheimer’s and memory care services.
It is one of the Sunrise Senior Living facilities nationwide. The organization was founded in 1981 by Paul and Terry Klassen and is headquarter in McLean, Virginia. Annette Fisher has been active with Sunrise at Sheepshead Bay at various events in her work as the founder of PESID (People Empowering Seniors Independence & Dignity) and its umbrella organization Golden Maturity, Inc.
Sunrise was honored as a 2015 Bronze National Quality Award Recipient by the NYS Facilities Association and NYS Center for Assisted Living. Its executive director is Tom Worden. It is a major participant in the 2015 Brooklyn Walk to End Alzheimer’s on Sunday, October 4, rain or shine. To register as a walker and/or sponsor, call 1-646-744-2982.
The three hour cruise set sail in Sheepshead Bay at 5:45 from Pier Nine across Emmons Avenue from Sunrise. Atlantis passed by Brighton Beach, Coney Island, Sea Gate, Bensonhurst, Bath Beach, Fort Hamilton Army Base and through the Narrows, Staten Island, Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Red Hook, Lower Manhattan, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty.
“This was a wonderful cruise on a beautiful weather and breezy evening, and a great way to support Sunrise,” said Robert Howe, an estate, trust and wills attorney in Bay Ridge, and Merchants of Third Avenue president. It is honoring Annette Fisher at its annual Pioneers of Third Avenue Awards Dinner in October with one of its civic awards. Howe was also celebrating his 36th wedding anniversary on the cruise with his wife Diana!
